Spectrotel Launches Ethernet Over Fiber Service

NEPTUNE, NJ (December 13, 2012) – Spectrotel, Inc., a New Jersey-based Competitive Local Exchange Company (CLEC) serving customers throughout the United States, today announced the launch of the Company’s latest service offering, Ethernet over Fiber (EoF).  EoF utilizes Ethernet technology to provide high bandwidth broadband Internet access delivered over fiber optic lines.

Building upon Fiber Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Service and Transparent LAN Service introduced in February, Spectrotel is adding EoF to meet the growing demand for Ethernet services. According to Vertical Systems research, in 2011 Ethernet bandwidth purchased by enterprises in the U.S. surpassed the aggregate bandwidth for legacy circuits, and growth of Ethernet bandwidth continues at double digit rates.

Spectrotel’s metro area Ethernet providers collectively have over 25,000 lit buildings globally. For businesses located in these lit buildings, Spectrotel can provide EoF using the Metro Fiber Network at standard service speeds of 5 Mbps to 1 Gbps. For businesses not located in a lit building, Spectrotel can provide EoF service over the Access Fiber Network, which utilizes the Local Exchange Company’s fiber optic infrastructure to provide standard service speeds of 10, 50 and 100 Mbps and higher speeds on an individual case basis. Spectrotel’s Access Fiber Network is currently available in 13 LATAs on the U.S. east coast.
